In response to Cody’s “Tri Gun TV show”

Filed under: Uncategorized — petroreid @ 8:33 pm

I agree with Cody’s statements about the Christ in the commons. This TV series has a lot to do with good vs. evil principles and how they are intertwined and conflict with each other. More importantly I think it’s more about what happens in the end of this conflict and the moral consequences Vash deals with daily then just good vs. evil In both helping the needy and running for his life. It brings about a more personal story then one I have seen in a long time. You just really have to watch is to get the full meaning of what I am saying.

First off the point about how Vash is widely misunderstood is very prevalent. Everywhere he goes he must put on a fake identity so that he doesn’t make people frightened, after all he is wanted for the destruction of an entire city. As you later see trough out the show Vash’s companions learn the truth about Vash’s predicament in that he never did it and how we was blamed for all this. You find out he is nothing like the cold mean killer he was portrayed, but that he is a fun, playful, loving guy. Its actually puts the humor in the show, this big “scary” guy playing ball with kids and crying over with laughter from being tickled. It shows you his true side.

Second how he is represented by his companions, and even by his enemies as this some sort of hero or savior to the people, not the thugs but the main antagonist. You can see christian values and beliefs all over this series. Not Christian specificity but his morals. Through out the entire series he protects the weak, helps communities, and saves lives. He is even faced with sacrificing himself not only physically but mental for the good of all. This, I think, is a great example of Christ in the commons, it shows how his ideas and morals can be applied to anyone. Like I said before though you have to watch all of it, even until the end, to get the full meaning of this.

It is the comedy/action/drama/self sacrificing attitude/story that has pulled me into the world of Tri Gun and has stuck with me ever since. Words can’t describe the feelings you have for the characters by the end of the series when its all over.

TV show “Psych”

My TV artifact is Psych. Psych is a criminal comedy-drama show by Universal studios and USA Networks. This show takes place in Santa Barbara, CA were two partners (Shaun Spencer and Burton “Gus” Guster) solve crimes for the police department and private sector by means of there “psychic abilities,” although they really don’t have an psychic abilities they just portray that. This becomes evident when they find evidence and from there fake a psychic presence of some sort to make a show.

In the pilot episode we see all the major characters and each of there persona. Shaun Spencer, the main character and brains/psychic of the operation, and is the goofy, funny guy of the group. Burton “Gus” Guster, which is Shaun’s right hand man and goes with him to help solve these cases. He keeps it focused and is a lot more serious then Shaun. Carlton “Lassie” Lassiter who is the head detective for the SBPD, is uptight, and doubts Shaun’s physic abilities. Juliet “Jules” O’Hara, who is the junior detective under Lassiter and is in constant romantic tension with Shaun. Also Chief Karen Vick who is the chief of the SBPD and is always reluctant to hire Shaun and Gus, but has a soft side for them. The shows starts of as Shaun, when he was a kid, and his father at a dinner showing us his special “heightened observational skills” as this becomes the basis of his so-called psych abilities. It flash forwards to the present were, because of Shaun’s excellent tip to the police, Lassiter and Juliet question his intelligence, and after “proving” his psychic abilities he is set free but with out a talk from Chief Karen which hires him for an investigation. He soon shows up to Gus’ work and he reluctantly gives in and helps him out. They go on to solve the crime, and at the end set up there own private detective business known as psych, after the success of there case.

This episode shows a lot about the beliefs and values of our society. It shows these emotional and character differences confronted making a funny chemistry. The show itself is very character driven and it shows the development of these characters over time especially when watching the pilot episode to say something in the third season. What’s really cool about the show to is that at the begging of almost every episode it has a flash back to Shaun’s childhood, and this flash back has something to do with the episodes plot, again showing this character development even more evident.

in response to John Pugsley “Hitch”

Filed under: Uncategorized — petroreid @ 2:51 pm

I agree with a lot of what John talks about in his blog. I think a big part of that movie is to just be yourself and let that special someone appreciate you for you. I think God values as well as use. He doesn’t want us to pretend and be someone were not. He whats us to be his.

i also agree with what John said in that Christ want us to have great relationships and what better way to have these good relationships is by being yourself. Although I have to disagree in that places like e-harmony and match.com are supposedly  for good relationships and being your self, they really do just the opposite. why would you just want to be you when you could try to be the coolest guy.

As John pointed out we see Christ in this movie because this movie promotes good relationships and being yourself. God loves it whent we have healthy relationships with others and with him, and even more he loves when we arn’t pretending. If we pretend about one thing we pretend about everything, for pretend to be Christians, we pretend our idenities, and we pretend our relationships.

Halo (video game series)

My artifact I will be talking about is Halo . Halo is a science fiction video game made by Bungie in association with Microsoft Game Studios for PC, xbox, and xbox 360. In the Series There is Halo:Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: ODST (orbital drop shock trooper), Halo Wars, and later this year Halo: Reach. The game is a “FPS,” or first person shooter, this game is also called a “shoot ‘em up,” because of its fast paced gameplay. The game itself is set in the future and you play as a UNSC (United Nations Space Command) spartan, a super biological solider. You are Spartan 117 or “Master Chief.” He is the last Spartans alive after the Covenants, an ancient alien race, attacked the UNSC’s military base known as Reach. You must fight them back while fighting another alien race known as the Flood which is a parasite that infects every living thing, like a virus. In the distant past a race known as the forerunners controlled the galaxy but were caught off guard by the flood, the forerunners however could not keep the threat under control so using an installation known as the “Ark” they built up a array of super weapons called Halos, and when the Halo array was activated all living life was destroyed depriving the Flood of food and in time they died out. The forerunners disappeared, that is until the Covenant accidentally releases the Flood on a Halo installation to try and kill Master Chief and the humans. With this new treat reappearing the forerunners return and with that try and reactivate the Halo destroying both the Covenant and humanity , with out knowing this the Halo’s AI 343 Guilty Spark enlists Master Chief and his AI Cortana to help activate this halo. Before the pair reactivate the Halo, Cortana finds out about all this and reveals it to Master Chief. They then detonate there ships engines destroying the Halo, and they return to Earth to warn them of this new threat. (Halo: combat evolved). Soon after he arrives the covenant fleet soon attacks Earth although most of the fleet is destroyed, but one covenant ship under the command of the Prophet of Regret makes it through to earth and invade an African city of New Mombasa. The Prophet of Regret finally makes a retreat through a slipspace portal. The master chief follows the Prophet of Regret to another halo installation and there he kills the Prophet of Regret. Inner turmoil in the covenant leads to a civil war against there various races. Learning that the activation of this halo array would bring about there extinction. The covenant warrior Arbiter and his elite brethren ally with humanity to stop the activation of this ring. The aborted activation puts all the array on standby, but could be reactivated remotely at a location known as the Ark. (Halo 2) The Master Chief then stows away on a vessel headed to Earth, in the midst of a full-scale invasion by the Covenant, who have excavate a Forerunner artifact in the African desert. This artifact creates a slipspace portal leading to the Ark. The Master Chief and Arbiter travel through the portal to kill the last High Prophet, Truth, and discover the installation is building a new ring to replace the one destroyed previously. In order to destroy the spreading infestation of the flood the Master Chief activates the incomplete ring, as the Ark lies outside the Milky Way, the blast will destroy the Flood and spare the galaxy at large. Because the ring’s construction is incomplete, the resulting pulse destroys the ring and damages the Ark. The Arbiter escapes the explosion, but the Master Chief and Cortana are left drifting in space, trapped in the severed rear half of their ship. The Master Chief cryonically freezes himself as he and Cortana wait for rescue. (Halo 3)

This game shows a lot of American values and beliefs. It has become a staple of gaming and has made it into other medians as well! With action, super hero like qualities, and individualistic ideas no wonder it has become so popular. The fact that the entire game is centered on one individual doing his thing, saving the universe from total destruction and that it has become so successful as a video game in America is pretty good evidence that we put our values and beliefs in that.

“How to Save a Life” – The Fray

Filed under: Uncategorized — petroreid @ 7:52 pm

How to Save a Life – Youtube

Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it’s just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you’ve told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road

Or break with the ones you’ve followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he’ll say he’s just not the same
And you’ll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life

Subject:

In this song “How to Save a Life” by the fray it talks about how this artist “lost a friend”  and how he could have  “saved his/her life.” It speaks of loss, sadness, hardship, and pain. It shows a Christian trying to show a non-Christian the way, but rejecting. It shows a Christian helping guide some one out of this horrible situation.

Content:

I was reading a review about this song, and it appears that it was written after the lead singer had been helping at a  camp for troubled teenagers. Most of which were struggling to help themselves and saw little future ahead of them. The song is actually written about how he tried to talk a young person out of suicide. Take a look at the song as if ‘You’ refers to the singer and ‘he’ refers to the youth. It’s really quite interesting how the song takes a whole other meaning. In the line “Between the lines of fear and blame. You begin to wonder why you came,” I think that was a great interpretation of the singers first reaction to talking with this youth, and that you really just wonder why you are doing this. In the line “Let him know that you know best. Cause after all you do know best,” it talks about how how argent the singer portrays himself.

Evaluation:

So like I told you before “How to Save a Life” is about the singer’s personal experience with a suicidal kid and how he dealt with it. It shows us how fragile life is and how one thing can save a life.
