Sarah,
First off let me say I love Boy Meets World. It has amazing life lessons!.
Cory and Shawn, alot of the time, have a falling out. In the end it seems like they realize how awful there lives would be without each other!!
The little t truths are very good. I like when you talk about how Cory loved hearing his name. It seems so much like me and everyone else I know. A little bit of fame goes a long way!!!!
Your big T truths really hit home for me. I have had falling outs with many of my friends in the last year. It hurts but I look at the Bible verse in Proverbs that you use, when it says that a friend loves at all times. It makes me wonder if those friendships were real or if they were just convenient because they were there.
I noticed that in almost every episode of Boy Meets World, Shawn and Cory have a falling out. They get mad at each other and dont want to be friends anymore. By the time the show is almost over they always make up and are friends again!
That gives me a little hope to know that it is possible to rebuild a friendship, but then i remember that its just TV and sometimes things that happen are ment to happen to help you learn and grow from it!

TV Blog….Reba ( Nicole Newhouse)

January 8th, 2009 by nicolenewhouse

Reba is a TV show about a divorced women named Reba. She still talks and sees her ex husband who lied and cheated on her. She has 3 kids and later on one son-in-law. The family goes through struggles and hard times just like other families. In the episode that i watched, Reba’s oldest daughter and son-in-law sign up for food stamps because times were very hard and they could not find work. Reba freaks out hardcore! She thinks that people who go on food stamps are for lazy mooches. Reba takes her kids down to the place where they signed up and asks for them to be taken off. The lady behind the counter is very offended when Reba tells her what she thinks of “these” people who get food stamps. The lady calls her rude and heartless. She also says that “these” people are just like any other normal human just trying to get by.
The little “t” truths are that people do go through hard times. They will be forced to do things that they do not want to or would not normally do. You should not be ashamed that you have to ask for help.
I feel like there are a lot of big “T” truths. To start, grudges are not healthy and cause you to think irrational. Reba was holding on to a lot of bitter towards her ex and saying if he would not have cheated this would not be happening. God asks us in Matthew 7:12 to treat others how we wish to be treated. No matter how our life plays out we cant just live in the past and blame people for the way our life is. Also I feel like there is a great deal about Gods grace. We live in a country that has opportunities for people to still be able to live a semi-descentlife no matter how much money you have. With out Gods abundant grace that would not be possible but he always is looking out for us and gives us what we do not/never deserve!
Reba has a lot of great life lessons. No matter how hard or difficult their lives get, they all come together and help each other through it. Yes…..it is not all that realistic but it can give us an idea of how we are able to join together as a family or community and get each other through the rocky parts. Reba is always learning and growing as a person. She makes mistakes and takes risks but no matter what happens she is never alone. God is talked about at verious points in the show, He not mocked but rather still set as “holy” or as holy as TV will make church and the Lord.

Response to Casey Mejeur’s movie blog

Casey, the movie Finding Nemo is deffinatly a winner.
I like when you give the quote from Dori, “You can’t promise to never let anything happen to him, because then nothing will ever happen to him.” This reminds me a lot of Gods love for us. Not just a little “t” truth. God gives us the freedom (to a point) to do what we want. A lot of the times when we make our own choices we only have ourselves in mind. But I know for me personaly, it is when I make a wrong choice or am careless when I learn the most. Its also when I find out that no matter how stupid I am God will always keep me close to him. I also like the point that you made about how Marlin did not even think twice about going to save his son. It was a huge sacrifice. Marlin also grew up a lot during this movie. He started off as a very controlling, “do what I say kind of fish,” to then a “as much as it’s going to hurt, I have to let you go,” type of fish.
John 3:16 took me a while to figure out how it connected to the movie…..but i finaly got it. I think it works really well for “There is no greater love then that of our father for his children.”

Nicoe Newhouse movie blog

The movie Wall-E starts off in a world full of trash. There is one robot, named Wall-E, who is left to clean up planet earth. The humans trashed earth and then left to go live in space while earth was being cleaned. The planet earth was not able to sustain life anymore. The humans did not care about the impact they had on the planet.  The movie takes place in the future. While the humans where in space the became very large and out of shape. They just ate ad sat around. They sat in chairs that would take them to where ever they needed to go. Even in space they did not care about one another. They were very selfish and pushy. Instead of recycling they would throw their garbage out in to outer space. One day a new robot named Eva came. She was a newer robot who could get clean up and see the progress that has been made so far. She was sent from the humans to see if they could finally go back to earth. Wall-E and Eva end up going on an unexpected adventure. They changed to coarse of the main robots plans, who was up in space.
The “little t” truths, I think, are to save the earth and take care of it. Reuse things. We need to save our planet from what could eventually happen. The movie also give the message of kindness. When the humans snap out of their selfishness, they can finally see how they treated on another; that helped them to respect each other.
I feel like the “big T” truths stand out more in this movie. When Wall-E was cleaning up the earth everyday you could see the wear and tear on his body. When Eva came it reminded me a little of Adam and Eve in the Bible. God put them in charge of the earth. I think the movie goes beyond just save our planet. I feel like it is directed towards when God said in Gen. 1:28a  and verse 31a, “God blesses them and said to them, “be fruitful, increase in number, fill the earth and subdue it…” and verse 31, ” God saw all that he had made and it was good.” Wall-E shows us, in an extreme way, how we are treating our world. As Christians we need to take the extra step in saving the gift God has given us. We should be the first ones to promote going green and not put down those who are by calling them tree huggers and such.

The Last One There by Nickleback~Nicole Newhouse

September 30th, 2008 by nicolenewhouse

This new song by Nickleback is a song about self discovery.  The song goes through a journey of finding true love in, what seems like, an apathetic world. This can relate to anyone who feels rejected anywhere in the world. No matter what race or even gender they are, it is an easily relatable song if you are going through a hard time.

The little “t” truths in this song is that some point in everyone’s life, they feel alone or even rejected. But they always have this hope that there is someone out there who feels the same way; that we are not alone in what we are going through. We can’t just give up or even run away because somewhere there is someone who truly cares and will not give up on us.

I think as Christians we can easily relate to this song, even if it a secular song with a single swear word. There are times in every persons walk with Christ when we search for the truth, looking in all the wrong places; where they feel like he is so far away. We feel alone and abandoned. In Psalm 139:1, 4 it says, “O LORD, you have searched me and you know me….Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.” God already knows we are going to feel down and out at times in our lives, that is part of our fallen nature. The beauty of it all is that he sends joy our way also. The main lines in the song are: “Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares, Someone to love with my life in their hands, Cause nobody wants to do it all on their own.” We can try to run as far away from God as we can, but we are nothing without his guiding hand of grace and mercy. He is the one who will always care and be there for us. Psalm 73:27,28 “Those who are far from you will perish; you destroy all who are unfaithful to you. But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.” We can’t just give up or even run away because somewhere there is someone who truly cares and will not give up on us…and that is God. One last line that Nickleback sings is, “Until that moment when, I find the one that I’ll spend forever with.” This line can be talking about an earthly lover; it can also be talking about who you will spend eternity with. This song will get people to think “who really is out there for me” and hopefully Gods light will shine through.
