I Strongly agree with Jenny’s annalyis of the song “Man in the Mirror”

Subject

This song by Michael Jackson is all about change.  I also can see how this song has many christian beliefs, and morals. As christians we are taught to help people and share God’s Word with others to change this world, and them.

Content

Right from the begining you can tell that this song is all about him wanting to make a difference in this world, and how he feels good about wanting to make a difference.

“I’m Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It’s Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . .”

In the second verse we really start to see the christian values start to come out. With him talking about not just walkling past people in need but be a good samaritan and help people who need it.

“As I, Turn Up The Collar On My
Favourite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin’ My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street,
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind?
Pretending Not To See
Their Needs”

Also in the seoncd verse of this song  the line “Who am I to be blind? Pretending not to see” really makes me think and wonder how we as humans sometimes try not to see other humans that need help. Just because they are less fortunate than us.

Evaluation

I am really happy that Michael Jackson someone who has untold power to affect what people think wrote a song about something so wonderful and something that as chrsitains we are alsways trying to get other’s to do. To help change the world for the better or “Change the Man in the Mirror” you could say to be a better person. This song really makes me wonder how often I have past by people and done nothing. However this song also inspires me to help change the wolrd by helping others, spreading God so these people know that somebody loves them and that there are saved from eternal death. This song also is one of the simpliest examples to me at least of Christ in the Common. Helping people just like God helps us through hard times. I hope that the next time someone heres this song and has thought about helping people but got scared. Gets empowered and changes thier community for the better.

Tell Me Why by: Will Smith

Friday, October 16th, 2009

This song talks about September 11th and how Will Smith has to explain what happened to his kids.  He gets really upset because his kids keep asking him why. Than he realizes that he wants to know why? So than he goes on a screaming tangent about how society does all these things, and then he asks why do we do this to ourselves.

The main point of this song is to get us to think about how we do all these terrible things, and rarely ever wonder or ask why. We just do it without thinking about who we are really hurting. In this song Will Smith talks about bombs exploding and little kids having to inhale the fumes and see the effects of this because of war between countries. Than he also wonders why people get arrested when they are only trying to help their family. This song really overall reflects the values of our country in the year or so after September 11th when we all went around wondering why us? That’s why I think Will Smith came out with this song.

When I listen to this song I start to wonder how  many things have I done that hurt other people and then later wonder why did I do this, and come up with an answer like “Well it seems like everybody does it so it will be okay.” However this is not right and I think this is the point that Will Smith is really trying to get at. That we should treat others with kindness and love, which as christians we call this the golden rule treat others the same way you want ot be treated.  There’s another verse Matthew 19:19 “and You shall love your neighbor as yourself. This also shows that this song teaches us to love, respect, and love each other in a way that could stop all the injustice and violence that hurts or even kills innocent people everyday and just gets forgotten about because it happens so much. To me this song really opened my eyes about how sometimes we don’t notice when we aren’t following the golden rule when we should be.
