response to Sarah Stripp’s post

Sarah, i really liked your post about High School Musical 3! I agree that a lot of people thought that it was going to be a very cheezey movie, and for that reason only, i almost didn’t see it! I thought it would be a stupid movie. But as you said, Troy did have a lot of decisions to make, and instead of giving in to pressure, he decided to go to a college that he wanted to go to, and do what he wanted to do! I also liked how you saw Mrs. Darbus. In the first movie, she was an annoying character to me. She seemed a little to obessessed with her music, and thought that nothing else should matter. But I liked that in the third movie she went with her instinct, and showed Troy that he was good at other things besides basketball, and that basketball didn’t have to be his whole life.

I liked how you applied scripture to illustrate the choices and actions of Gabriella. She was a perfect example of someone who was a “light on a hill”. Although not in the strictest sense, she was a light on a hill in her school. She brought people together, and without her, who knows if those people would have ever talked to each other! I really enjoyed reading your post!

Response to Liz Ruimveld’s music post

I really liked the comments on your post , Liz! I have never heard this song before, and the lyrcis made a lot of sense when I read the comments that you wrote about it. I totally agree on what you said in the first line of your “content” section. It’s true that us, as teenagers, often don’t see that some things we say have a huge impact on people. I know that I have said things to people before, but they take what i say the wrong way, and end up getting hurt.

I also agree that some people don’t know that it is possible to start over in certain aspects of their life. It’s hard to do sometimes, but in the end it wil probably help more than harm. I think it’s really neat how this song isn’t resolved. It’s kindof open ended.  the singer didn’t want to make up the boys’ mind for him, but he also doesn’t want to make up our minds for us. He(the singer) wants us to think about what we think that boy should do.

I really like what you (Liz) had to say in the evaluation section of your post. This song shows us (not just us Christians, but everyone) that even though we might have problems that seem so hard to overcome, we can overcome them in this world. And the Bible verse really put an emphasis on that. This was a great post!!

Innocence-Avril Lavigne (Music Post)

October 20th, 2008 by emilyhorjus

in the Music section of our Media Lit class, we focused on “little T truths” and “Big T truths”. Little T truths are truths that include facts that can be proven. It is like what the world really is. Little T truths are also beliefs of people in general. Big T truths are those truths that we (Christians) believe in sureness (example: Grace. things that could symbolize something that happened in the Bibel). I chose to use the song “Innocence” by Avril Lavigne to show what I learned in media lit. The song’s chorus is as follows :

This Innocence Is brilliant

I hope that it will stay

this moment is perfect

please don’t go away

I need you now

And I’ll hold on to it,

don’t you let it pass ya’ by

I really like this song, because it kindof reassures me. The song starts out by (paraphrase) ” I wake up and everything’s ok….it’s the little things that make life great, I wouldn’t change a thing about it. This is the best feeling …” and so on and so forth. The basic point of the song is that the little things in life are the best, and whatever happens in her (the artist’s) life, she wants to stay and never to leave, because life is so good right now. later in the song it says ” It’s so beautiful it makes you want to cry. This innocence is brilliant, it makes you want to cry”

My friend sang this at her sister’s wedding, so when I first heard this song I thought that it was strictly a love song between two people. I think that this song has good “morals”. It’s talking about wanting to keep things the same; not wanting things to change , because life is so good right now. They don’t want to leave this “safe place” in their lives. I think that everyone, in one way or another, wants to keep the good things/people in their lives. But the more I listened and enjoyed this song, the more I thought about it from a different persective. Once I thought about it, I could see Mary (Jeus’ mother) singing this song! Think about it: It’s a peaceful night; Jesus is a little baby and they are safe in Egypt ( after fleeing Pharoah). Everything seems to be going alright. But Mary knows that things are going to change, and that one day her son will be beaten, mocked, and hung on a cross to pay for His peoples’ sins. How hard would it be to be the MOTHER of JESUS, watching Him grow up, knowing that one day He’ll be suffering so much!?! This song contains lyrics that could be described as “happy” lyrics: this song has been sung at a wedding :) . But looking deeper, I found that this song is more than that. It almost has a  pleading tone. As if someone is crying out  ” this Innocence is brilliant, please don’t go away; I need you now, and I’ll hold on to it, don’t you let it pass you by….It’s the state of bliss;you think you’re dreaming, it’s the happiness inside that you’re feeling; it’s so beautiful it makes you want to cry”. I think the song could be describing a situation that seems so peaceful and happy it’s almost too good to be true.
